Congratulations on your life path decision!  Becoming a Registered Behavior Technician can be a fulfilling and rewarding career. At a national average base pay of around 30 thousand dollars a year according to www.glassdoor.com, you can rest assured your basic needs will be met. But what attracts people to this job more than the pay rate is the meaningful impact they can have on people's lives.

Take for instance, Cathy, an RBT in Detroit, Michigan who works directly with autistic children helping them progress towards autonomy and real-world integration. Peter, on the other hand, works outside of Tampa Bay, Florida helping recovering addicts break their addictions and rebuild their lives. The range of positions varies greatly so decide which one is the best fit for you.

Register for the Exam

In order to become an RBT, you will have to register to take the national exam here, through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. You will have 90 minutes to complete 85 questions, so it would be a great idea to pace yourself at about one question per minute. The best test strategy is to go through once answering all of the questions you're certain about. Then on a second pass, see if you can use a process of elimination and your best guess to answer the rest of them. Saving any that really stump you for the end if there's time is a much better strategy than wasting time that could be better spent answering the ones you have a better chance at. Good luck!
